Quantifying environmental sustainability of denim garments washing factories through effluent analysis: A case study in Bangladesh

This paper deals with the environmental impact of effluents released by denim garment washing factories in Bangladesh. Both untreated and treated effluent samples were collected from five identified as representative cases subjected to chemical testing a part case study. The results compared against acceptable limits parameters-chemical oxygen demand (COD), dissolved (DO), biochemical (BOD), total solids (TDS), suspended (TSS), potential hydrogen (pH) color. Findings show that COD BOD values are well within limit all studied but only 20% could achieve DO levels. Around 40–60% showed evidence improved filtration systems for TDS TSS values, 40% produced clear wastewater. 60% met an pH level 6–8 before releasing their environment. study reveals technical limitations treatment practices findings will appeal stakeholders, including academics researchers, give serious attention reducing industrial process. They help industry practitioners more comprehensive information take strategic action making Bangladesh sustainable.
